I Wish It Would Rain - The Temptations | A Man With a Broken Heart | Rodger Penzabene

For today's post my Temptations Community, I wanna tell the story behind one of the most heart touching songs of all times. Last week, marked the 56th anniversary of The Temptations classic hit song "I Wish It Would Rain." The song was released on December 21, 1967, the same day "My Girl" came out a few years prior. But the story behind the classic is also one of the saddest stories to ever be told. A man named Rodger Penzabene was a young, talented songwriter for Motown Records. He and "6th Temptation" Cornelius Grant were childhood friends growing. In early 1967, he co-written Temptations hit song "You're My Everything," which was dedicated to his then wife, who he was madly in love with. Shortly after, he sadly discovered his wife was cheating on him. At that moment, his heart was torched, broken into pieces and made him very depressed. That same year, he would also co-write many heartbreaking songs, such as, "I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)," and "I Wish It Would Rain" that were inspired by his personal unhappy life. Otis described him as "young, nice looking, but kind of quiet and reserved, and very humble." A week after "I Wish It Would Rain" was released, Rodger Penzabene took his own life on New Year's Eve. He was only 22 years old. Rodger was a man with a broken heart. He'll never be forgotten and always be remembered for the classics he wrote for the Temptations. A day from now, will mark 56 years since his passing. This man was heartbroken by the woman that he desperately loved, poured all of his pain and suffering in those songs that became classics....like these lyrics - "Sunshine blue skies, please go away. My girl has found another, and gone away. With her went my future, my life is filled with gloom. So, day after day, I stayed locked up in my room.
